Same thing here with a lenovo R500 ATI Radon HD 3400 series.
The bug appeared only after I installed the flgrx drivers.

I'm also experiencing this issue using Compiz + ATI with yakuake. It
seems to work fine once it's open, and it closes fine, just hangs for a
bit when initially pressing 'f12'. My card is a Radeon HD3450, and I'm
also running Jaunty.

Intel Mobile 4 integrated series. I have changed my window manager to
Metacity and I get almost instant response, so it seems the bug is tied
down to so Compiz. I have removed most of the extras in compiz-config
