HP Pavillion dv9820us with Jaunty
durring bootup, it the power cord is not plugged it hangs and you have to keep
pressing the space bar or enter in order for it to finish.
this happens also when powering down the machine, it hangs if on
battery.

Same here. During boot I can hit almost any key to get the 'ball'
rolling. Holding the space bar down seems to be the best.

I had the same problem, adding pci=noacpi to the kernel parameters
worked for me. Suspend to ram doesn't work though.

I also have the same problem on my HP Compaq Presario F762AU after a
fresh install of Jaunty Jackalope.
On battery, Grub will load, then when the usplash screen should be
loaded, nothing happens, until I press the "Enter" button which makes
the bar run again.

Having the same problem here, both in the installer and during normal
runs.
The annoying workaround is touching the keyboard every time it hangs
starts it up again, eventually it'll boot.
Tried booting with kernel parameters: noapic irqpoll noirqdebug
9.04 official release, i386 version.

I would just like to add that I loaded up the 9.04 official release for
AMD64 and I am having the same problem on my HP lappy. Boots fine with
AC pwer, hangs on battery power. I will try the Ctrl-Alt-F1 trick.
