Same here, suspend works, but hibernate doesn't.

I am reopening the bug since I can also confirm the authentication error
issue.

When logged in hibernate works, starts up with a prompt w/ the ability
to switch users.
Suspend from gdm appears to do very little, monitor shuts off, HD light
flashes.
Hibernate gives an authentication failure.

As suggested, we can remove hibernate from gdm, but suspend seems to
function.
I'm also using gdm 2.14.10-0ubuntu1, suspend works fine from gdm, but
hibernate gives me the "authentication failed" error.

Confirmed (sort of). Looks like gdm 2.14.10 fixed my suspend problem (see
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/50703)
I don't normally hibernate, but when I tried it (from the login options menu) I
get the "authentication failed" message as mentioned above.

FYI, I can confirm GDM 2.14.10 did NOT fix my suspend problems. See bug
#46680.

I also can confirm that suspend is working with gdm 2.14.10.
But hibernate is still failing with "authentication failed".

Thank you for the comment, marking as fixed then, the changelog points it:
" - Fix decoding of suspend message in the daemon so the suspend
command works."

I just upgraded to the new gdm package (v2.14.10) that appeared today in
dapper-updates
and I can confirm the suspend functionality is now working for me from the gdm
login screen.

The hibernation part of the bug is still an issue with edgy, tested on a
whitebox laptop. I'm not sure if the suspend issue I see is this or
another problem. Thanks.
