According to the last comment on the upstream bug, this really was a bug

This is a patch to the KDE logout effect which disables the buggy
section in the Intel driver. If and only if the driver does not get
fixed, please apply the patch for Karmic. That patch would change the
behaviour for all users allthough for those who are not affected by this
bug.

setting useBlur to false resolves the problem for kde kwin users. It's a
workaround.
I still have the bug in my karmic (updated today). I'm testing on a netbook

In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, UXA is enabled by default, right? (No xorg.conf, I am
slightly confused).
But there are these four lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
(II) UXA(0): Driver registered support for the following operations:
(II) solid
(II) copy
(II) composite (RENDER accele
I'm still having this. I'm otherwise extremely pleased with karmic
koala. The UXA acceleration seems to work great on my machine. About
this bug though, it's funny it only happens with kdm as login manager.
If you switch to gdm, you can start and exit kde sessions without
problems. So what informat

Same bug here with UXA enabled. It is also happening if I try to switch the
user.
After switching, the screen is black, and with a period of approximately 30
sec, the screen backlight turns off and on (notebook display). If I am hitting
ALT+PRINT+K, I can return to my previous session with CTRL+
Yes, I'm running Kubuntu 9.04.
I have to add that I'm not running i945GM chipset but the G43 (GMA X4500).
