This works fine nowadays, and Ubuntu 9.04 itself is end-of-lined. Ubuntu
10.04 LTS for example is solid with the same hardware.

I think I got this problem. I had a complete lock up and wasn't sure
what to do so I hardbooted but now I can't even get to recovery mode. Is
there any way I can get back on to retrive crash data? (and get my
system going again)
