There is a thread in the forums where at least three other people have
the same problem.
Search in 'Installation & Upgrades' for the phrase "No nautilus after
jaunty upgrade".
My log file has the following errors:

I WAS WRONG. This problem doesn't just randomly occur, there has to be files in
your "Desktop" folder for it to happen.
PLEASE FIX THIS, I BEG YOU!

Also, in addition to no desktop folder being embedded, I cannot open
nautilus through the command line any way. Tried as admin, tried sudo,
gksudo, plain user, nothing. Just keeps failing, and the automatic bug
info collector can't get info from it for some reason.
