Well I have Karmic installed on the laptop. When I was using the
LiveCD I got the network manager working just fine after giving it the
password for the wireless router. It was working while Karmic was
loading and when apt was loaded it got about 5 minutes of updates from
mirrors.

Well I can not help you. I have Jaunty on my laptop with every update
to yesterday and the WiFi is still perfect! But I did ditch network

Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that "This is
the kernel data requested." was flagged as a patch. A patch contains
changes to an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug, since this was not
one I've unchecked the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind
the definition
I deleted the Jaunty with 240 upgrades and re-loaded my Jaunty-beta
and got quite a few updates while reloading when apt was loaded. I had
wireless working on the LiveCD at this time. I got joe and thunderbird
without problem and after 6 reboots the wireless continues to work! Here
is the lspci
I am looking for non-kernel problems and I draw your attention to the lspci
from Jaunty. I have looked and the wireless hardware is NOT listed! On the same
laptop I have 8.10 running and it gets wireless just fine.
