Is spot on - removing the Media will stop the spawning and they will
close off until none left, they do start up agin if media is re-
inserted.

Is this file manager that it tries starting?
If so, does removing mounted iso from vmware help at all?
Does "sudo apt-get remove libbrasero-media0" help?
