I have submitted code to Gutenprint to add a driver for the iP4200. It
is currently only available from their CVS, but should go into 5.0.1 if
there are no problems. I would be grateful to anyone willing to give it
a try (it worked in my minimal tests).

message in my error log. But I had a go at installing cups 1.2.1 from
source. when i do, i am no longer able to use local printers, for some
reason. all other types are ok (in the kde add printer wizard) but local
printer is grey

Same problem here. In my case, the queue is emptied (so it looks like
everything works) but the printer doesnt give a sigh.
