The changes were not ever merged in the karmic tree; see bug #415832.
Kernel team told me that they have a tag in the jaunty tree for changes
which they still need to merge into karmic.
Closing this bug again, please use the other one.

is it possible that the patch got dropped somewhere on the way to karmic?
i'm looking at my /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic.prerm and I
don't see these three files:
