the title is misleading there, leaking is using memory and not freeing
it after use, what you seem to describe is the log viewer not handling
the number of lines in those logs and crashing sometimes

If the hang is caused by just the size of logfiles?

Started app with valgrind, closed clicking X when app was unresponsive
for a quite a while.
