when you left click on the menu you get the slide, a checkbox to mute
the sound and a button to open the control, ubuntu is not doing those
changes but GNOME

thank you for your bug report, in jaunty you can double click on the
applet for that, closing the bug since that's as easy and what upstream
decided to do there
