I tried both "apt-get install virtualbox-ose" and downloading the .deb,
then using dpkg -i. Both of them had the same result.
However, in the intervening six months I have switched to the sun
virtualbox-2.1 installation, so I'm not able to say if the problem still
applies to the current ose v
How exactly did you install virtualbox?
This should mark the package as manually installed:
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose
or
sudo aptitude install virtualbox-ose&M
