I do have similar issue. Sound works fine, but I cannot record anything
over microphone. It works over line-in. I've tested with a Mandriva Live
CD and there recording works. I'm using pulse. Laptop is an ACER Aspire
5538 and the soundcard choosen is snd_hda_intel

I have the same problem with my laptop.
At first, I think it can't capture any sound at all.
After some experiments, I found it actually records but at extremely low volume.
It can capture only a heavy gust not any sound.
