This is a problem with your laptop overheating. It may be that a fan has
failed, or your laptop has become bunged up with dust. If you're not
comfortable opening your laptop up, I'd recommend taking it to a local
PC shop for them to look at.

I compiled kernels on this previously!! This is NOT the first time I'm
compiling on this laptop. BUT, this is the first time it has shut down
due to overheating.
Can you please think of any other reasons why this is happening other
than blaming the laptop for this?

Hello Christopher,
Sorry for not being clear. I am using a dell xps m1330 laptop. I do not
think doing the things which you said above is a good idea for a laptop.
Also, I compiled kernels previously on other kernels fine. I think this
is the first time I'm compiling after upgrading to 8.04.2.

This is a safety issue that your hardware is enabling. This is because
your hardware will reset itself if it gets too hot. The best course of
action would be to not OVERload the CPU, place your computer in the
fridge, place more fans inside or use thermal cooling paste.
