I haven't installed 10.10 yet, but the problem in previous ones was solved by
disabling splash screen and letting the boot messages flow in screen
Soon, i'll be able to install it, then I may retu
omarr, does the problem still occur with the latest release of Ubuntu?

similar problem since a few days, after poweroff with powerbutton (not
accessing hdd anymore) I have to run a manual fsck and reboot (thanks to
ext4)

here are the answers
1- I did not. I installed directly Ubuntu 8.10
2- I din not add any.
3- I have not tried it. But I did as db said and it works. I changed grub list.
I typed "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" and then removed "splash" and
"quiet" entries then I restarted
