Ah I meant text when I'm installing the package. I have the package selected
from the Synaptic Package Manager on a clean install of Jaunty. When I hit
apply I receive the text for the error.

Not sure about Richard but if a new user tries to install splashy for the
first time at the moment you are unable to because of the package
conflicting with lsb-base.

I also get this error, Jaunty final 64bit. As a result I now get text on
startup, unless I reinstall usplash

splashy is not that splash screen. Splashy is a replacement to usplash (the
splash screen that appears before the login screen not the one used by
compositing managers after you login).

*_amd64.deb package.

Same problem with Jaunty final, upgraded from Intrepid Ibex. I was able
to install it issuing dpkg --force-overwrite -i
/var/cache/apt/archives/splashy_0.3.13-3ubuntu1_i386.deb. It won't work
either, but after passing the string vga= to the kernel line in
menu.lst i was able to see again a splash s
