This might also be related to the problem: i could not hear the audio with firefox anymore, eg of youtube. But I did sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-ati sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati and I can hear it again. I did the same with xserver-xorg-video-intel but no improvement with
