Found a workaround! I used the CUPS http interface:

USB or Samba protocol can apparently be deleted, or have their
properties edited. Printers using ipp protocol cannot, even if they have

I cannot reproduce this problem. For me it is no probalem to remove IPP
printers which point to CUPS queues on remote servers using system-
config-printer on Lucid.
Are you logged in as the primary user (or any user in the "lpadmin"
group) when you are trying to remove the printer?
