This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.
If it remains an issue
I can also confirm this for 2.6.28-6 in Jaunty, Alpha 4 (direct install,
not a virtual machine).
I've never had the audio go on my system, but it seems to be kernel
dependant.

What seems is happening for me is that when I restart my computer the
MASTER VOLUME is muted, and when I open the VOLUME CONTROL I find that
the PCM, line in, cd, and mic are ALL muted as well. When I turn up the
PCM I get sound again......BUT the MASTER SOUND no longer works.
PLEASE NOTE THIS
I also have this bug.
Is there a solution for it?
I'm afraid I don't quite understand the stuff that Brett Alton wrote -
