I ran slapd with -d any and figured out that the problem is in the
following lines in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf (it seems they were added by
package update script)
overlay syncprov
syncprov-checkpoint 100 10
syncprov-sessionlog 100
Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the exact error message - this slapd

slapd -h 'ldap://127.0.0.1:389/ ldaps:/// ldapi:///' -g openldap -u
openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ -d any
this runs slapd in debug mode in foreground. If something is wrong slapd
will post out error messa
