Hi Brian,
I did what you said both with and without the first 2 lines in my
interfaces file and also with and without changing managed=false to true
in my nm-system-settings.conf file, but still nothing. When my
interfaces is like it is now (file attached) and managed set to false it
says device i
Your interfaces file should have:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet
There should not be the word loopback there. In the event you are still
having problems with this please add the full contents of the
/etc/network/interfaces file as an attachment. Thanks in advance!

That thread make me really appreciate proper forums! Everything is so
messed up there, or is it just me?
I don't have a eth0 in my interfaces file. I tried to check the
manages=false to true in /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf and
add "auto eth0; iface eth0 inet loopback to my interface
