yep, same bug remains, please observe that you do not need THIS printer to
reproduce bug.
just select any printer, choose to search for driver, and search for QL500,
You'll get a message that there's one , but on the next screen, where you are
supposed to choose the one to download, there's none
This is an old bug.
It would help us a lot if you could test if this is still a problem in Ubuntu
10.04 LTS or higher?

Till, in Jaunty the search result still reports "Brother QL-500" in the
description. Next step is an empty "choose driver" list, with the button
grayed out.
I've filed a "needs-packaging" bug for this driver, see Bug #436135. I
also attached detailed instructions to that bug on how to install such
Confirmed on Ubuntu Jaunty.

This is a problem of system-config-printer. The driver download facility
which you are using is for searching for (manufacturer-supplied) PPDs on
the OpenPrinting web site. Unfortunately, it does not tell already in
the list of found models whether for the selected models are PPDs
available or not.

Drivers for QL-500
I'm having the same problem!
I've tried lots of things without really knowing that much about the
cups printing system. I think somebody who does would fix this in no
time.
The closest I've gotten to success was when I tried the open printer driver and
the instructions here:
