It's kind of part of the problem but not the problem entirely.
I think it has to do with what the eject button does entirely. is it
a hardware button, or a software button?

I have added that option already, but that's not the problem.
The problem is that this option forces an eject instead of unmounting
the drive safely before ejecting, causing some error messages.
There should be a specific procedure to safely eject other drives.
This is how it ideally should work
Add this to /etc/sysctl.conf file
# allow eject of cdrom using eject button
dev.cdrom.lock=0
