I'm no longer affected by this bug. I'm not sure which kernel fixed it
exactly but I do know that 2.6.31 and on are fine.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are

Monitor the "Dirty" values in " cat /proc/meminfo" ... if the values
remain high (... are not cleaned frequently enough) then the problem
might be the "pdflush" configuration.
