I still have the "no sound" problem with ALC268 but you guys seem to be
focused on the mic problem. Does it mean that the sound problem has now
been fixed? What steps should I follow in order to get the sound
working?

And sorry being a nuisance. I am waiting for one year and a half that the mic
problem on my laptop is fixed. And now I know is it fixed upstream, I am a bit
too impatient ! Sorry.

would be great.

I have just tested Alsa 1.0.18a with a fedora 11 live CD.
I was particularly interested by this fix (included in 1.0.18a) :

Current version in Jaunty seems to be 1.0.18rc3 :

1.0.18a is mainly a bug fix release for 1.0.18.

I second this wish to backport alsa 1.0.18a.
I don't know if it is still feasible for Intrepid but at least for jaunty.
The 1.0.18 version fixes a lot of of things in the hda driver :
