I am still experiencing this as well. I have tried running startx -- :1 In the first tty ( ctrl+alt+f1 ) as well as running it from a gnome- terminal and seeing what happens. Both have the same output: X.Org X Server 1.5.2 Release Date: 10 October 2008 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build O

Hardy Heron Alpha5 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the Intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha5 Live CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-5/ . If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results.

Could you please recheck it with Gutsy Final Live CD? In Gutsy i810 driver is deprecated and intel driver is used instead. @sancheztavo I guess your issue is a different bug report since it does work on many cards so it isn't a general xorg problem. I would file another bug report for your issue
