I've noticed this in network-manager-openvpn. The issue I see is I
click on the "Use this connection only for resources on its network"
checkbox in "Routes..." dialog, then I click apply. Next time I go into
the configuration, the checkbox is unclicked again.

If you say soI had thought it was common practice for workarounds to

Yes there are work arounds (easiest being install vpnc), but lets keep
this bug post focused on addressing the regression from Jaunty (it
worked in that version).

Okay so after hours of searching I have found a work around that may
help some people with this issue. If you simply need to prevent vpnc
from becoming your default gateway (This would be accomplished in the
GUI with the "Use this connection only for resources on its network"

This is also not working for me in Karmic. Neither custom routes, nor
the checkboxes in the Routes dialog, are saved or change anything in
gconf.

Have you tried the same changes to the routing table on 9.04, that would
be version 0.7.1~rc4.20090316+bzr21-0ubuntu2? On my system, adding an
additionnal routing entry appears to work just fine.
