Correction, dropped "Front" to 0 and it's fixed, but I can't touch my system volume, top right, since it reintroduces the static and I have to run alsamixer -Dhw again to repair it. -- static / tinny sound with STAC9271D https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295854 You received this bug notification be

alsamixer -Dhw was my savior. I dropped the PCM Front volume to 0 and I'm golden now. Thanks very, very much Dru. I had this issue before I upgraded to 9.10 and I fixed it easily in the sound settings, but this time around I couldn't find PCM in the list of the new interface. -- static / tinny

This sounds somewhat similar to bug 210865; you might check if you need some special settings in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base. -- static / tinny sound with STAC9271D https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed

I think I may be experiencing the same thing with my Dell E series Latitude Notebook. I get what sounds like static when using ALSA, but it works fine using OSS. The static is rather consistent in nature (kind of sounds like rain static generated on a HF yagi ham radio antenna) which may mean I
