Need g++-3.4 to check for compilability / compatibility of C++ code --
the compiler versions do make a difference. Poor decision in my view not
to carry forward g++-3.4.

I am in a situation where I can fix my code, but I can't fix others code,
because the library comes as binary and was compiled using g++3.x.
The same applies to older projects that won't compile with g++4.x. And _why_
gcc3.x is still available? This partial availability has no logical
explanati
Ditto -- need to compile an older release of ACE, the packages exist but
are not installable with APT, why on earth?

ran into the same trouble. The repository has gcc-3.4 but not g++. It
would definitely be appropriate to have both old compilers available.
One more vote to restore g++-3.4 in repositories (at least non-
official).

Why is the gcc-3.4 binary package still available in Intrepid and
Jaunty, but not g++-3.4? I don't think the situation is cool and leaving
out g++-3.4 seems arbitrary at best.

As a workaround I downloaded these files from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gcc-3.4/
and installed them using "dpkg -i *.deb" command.
cpp-3.4_3.4.6-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
gcc-3.4_3.4.6-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
libstdc++6-dev_3.4.6-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
g++-3.4_3.4.6-1ubuntu2_i386.deb

That's cool. So I have to install older ubuntu version, or there is
other way how to get g++-3.4 (or 3.3) for intrepid?

please update your code or use g++-4.1 or g++-4.2. g++-3.4 won't appear
