I also have this problem with Intrepid. This doesn't happen on every single
folder with mp3s. When I launch brasero with -g, it seems that it hangs on this:

once I have browsed to that the folder.

I'm getting this same problem, only I can reproduce mine every single
time in three steps: open Brasero, click the button to open an audio
project, navigate to my MP3 folder, double click on a song = screen goes
dark and brasero stop responding. I have to then force quit.
