I had the exact same issue on my Lenovo T60 running Hardy. After
googling around and reading this, I ejected the blank CD I had in the
drive, and gdmsetup works.

I have discovered that executing the command using the a bus message the
segmentation fault error does not occur.
Ex.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dbus-launch gdmsetup
