I also have a Toshiba Satellite M305D and am experiencing the exact same
problem with 64 bit Intrepid. If any progress has been made on this
front I would love to know.
Interestingly, I had the same result after going into hibernate and

Ok, this is confirmed. I rebooted the computer, and ran the two simple
commands in the terminal and got the first results. I then left the
terminal window open and hibernated the computer and then ran those two
commands once again. Below is the results of this test.

Wow, that is odd, I just checked out the txt file that we made before
and then compare that to this:
lshal | grep battery
udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_power_supply_battery_BAT1'
battery.charge_level.current = 45791 (0xb2df) (int)
battery.charge_level.design = 45791 (0xb2df)
Only battery in lshal is the mouse battery.

Strange new development. I was playing around with hibernate and sleep, and
after hibernating the computer then starting it back up, I once noticed it gave
me a notice that the battery was fully charged! So I pulled the plug, and now
it is recognizing my battery!
While plugged in I get this:

Thanks for this info! Here is what I have found out.
1. Under 'System > Preferences > Power Management' can you see an 'On Battery
Power' tab?
No, no On Battery Power tab shows.
2. Is there any suggestion of a problem in the '/var/log/acpid' file after a
fresh reboot? Search for the term 'b
