I am marking this Bug as invalid myself, because gnome-vfs is no longer used
and replaced by gvfs
Also I do not longer use the setup described so I cannot tell at the moment if
this is still a problem.
Keepalive could be a good hint though. Thanks to everyone who worked on
this.

Try setting the following options in your server smb.conf:
keepalive = 0
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_KEEPALIVE
It seems to solve the issue for me.

I do see the problem when pausing and continuing after a while, but
Gnome Bug 535119 (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535119)
describes problems when seeking through a mp3 file that is played over
the network from a cifs volume.
This seems to be a different bug, but could be related.

the bugs need to be sent to GNOME by somebody having the issue and who
can reply to their comments, the bugs can be triggered easily can be
sent by anybody but in this case it seems something specific to your
configuration so you should be the one sending the bug there

Sebastian, as I wrote, the problem accures with current intrepid ibex.
The Songs are located on a samba fileshare.
Import gives the option to use network drives (using gvfs-smb)
The problem is reproduceable, however it occures only if a certain amount of
time (I would say 15 to 30 Minutes) have
how do you play the smb song btw?
