What if you have two RTCs? Is there any guarantee that which one is
/dev/rtc0 on one boot won't be /dev/rtc1 on the next? This could be
dangerous

I'll confirm that vmware workstation 6.5 complains about Ubuntu
8.10beta's lack of /dev/rtc. While the right answer might be to report a
bug with vmware, the easy fix would be to have Ubuntu symlink the file.
