However, since i cannot get into the graphic portion i do not know how to

I tried your first suggestion and as expected it did not work. After
pressing enter the screen read '[sudo] password for nutzer:'. I typed in
my login password and enter and the screen read: '* Starting GNOME
Display Manager...[ OK ]' followed by the next line:
'[EMA

You have logged in a terminal. the '[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$' line is the prompt
that waits for your command.
You can attempt to start the desktop manager manually by typing: 'sudo
/etc/init.d/gdm start' and press an enter.

What happened here, you actually are logged in but at a terminal; the
graphical portion failed to load. Please attach a copy of the file
/var/log/Xorg.0.log; this will contain the error messages required to
assist you.
