Per user comment, its solved. Problem was in changed /etc/hosts file,
not duplicity.

Ah! well, my /etc/hosts looked like this:
127.0.0.1 Caliope localhost.localdomain localhost
So it makes sense, since Caliope did not have a period... Now I feel a
bit dumb! Thanks very much for the help. I just checked that now it
works removing the localhost.localdomain

According to Python lib manual:
getfqdn([name])
Return a fully qualified domain name for name. If name is omitted or
empty, it is interpreted as the local host
$ hostname -f
Caliope

What does 'hostname -f' return? Duplicity uses the FQDN, not just
hostname.
