For me this seems to be fixed in GIMP 2.8. Is anybody still affected by

I'm seeing another odd problem with the dialog box in GImp 2.6.3 on
Xubuntu Jaunty Alpha 4. The initial Save dialog is sized wrong but
corrects itself on subsequent openings and sessions (probably saved the
size in config).

The bug appeared in Intrepid with the updates from that time.
Is running on VirtualBox 1.5.6_OSE with the resolution 800x600 px.
ps. I've updated and the bug is fixed, but if I select "Select File Type
(by extension)" it expans and I close it is not stretching back.

1. the one you describe
2. weird behaviour when reducing the vertical size of the save dialog causing
widgets disappear (because of minimum vertical size not set or something like
this)
