Okay, got a chance to upgrade from 8.4 to 8.10 and everything seems to work!
Very happy :)

Ah. I went back to 8.04 (to get networking) I will upgrade to 8.10 RC
and try the radeon driver again.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
