No worries Dimitrios. You're correct though, it does look like 8086:284b
needs that option in order for sound to work, which makes it a confirmed
kernel bug. I just want to get all the other usual information for
hardware detection bugs for the kernel team before i triage it.

to sum up, for 8086:284b (Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HDA) needs "options
snd-hda-intel model=toshiba" in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Muting or umuting channels had no effect.
Sound IS now working, after following instructions here:

adding a line with "options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba" to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, and then running "sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload"
