with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver
by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because
upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are

upgraded to 9.04. the upgrade downgraded my displays to be unusable (one
was saying frequency out of range and the other was black). The solution
was to disconnect one of the displays, reboot, activate the proprietary
driver and re--do the whole configuration. Not a pleasant user
experience. There

Hello,
updating my 8.04.1 the other day messed up completely my setting. It now
only runs in reduced graphics mode, and the keyboard is also messed up
(US Keyboard layout instead of the one that I had in my xorg.conf).
Does this have anything to do with the dropped nVidia auto-config
support? and
sorry I was slower to get the attached information. I recovered an old
drive with 8.04.1 and plugged it into the box, reconfigured X with sudo
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-org and run a few tests.

- booted 8.04.1 in recovery mode
- run xfix from the recovery menu
