According to a poster on the Tab Mix Plus forums, and confirmed on my
system, the problem is a conflict between the "Ubuntu Firefox
Modifications" extension and TMP. Since my life depends on TMP, I
disabled the Ubuntu extension, and customization works again.

Just an update,
I found out that my problem is caused by the "Tab Mix Plus" Add-on.
After disabling it, my customizations remain after a firefox restart.
Will keep it like this for now. Sorry for my mis-posting...

Hi,
I think I have the same issue. Downloaded the beta Alternate CD on the
23rd of october and installed fresh on a new laptop. I update at least
twice per day. I am able to customize the toolbar, but after I close
firefox and start it again, the changes are lost and I get the default
lay-out.
