This does look like a bug we had a few releases ago, which has since
been resolved.
Feel free to reopen bug if you can reproduce it on Oneiric, but since
there's been no recent comments I'm guessing not.

This occurs even when I have turned off my visual effects, please find
attached a screenshot of sound-juicer with the same bug without compiz
running.

Am running 8.04 but it's been present for many versions now.
I agree it could be a video issue, I don't have the time to confirm if
it occurs without compiz at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if
it doesn't.
As my recommendations... I really have none, I only use sound-juicer
when banshee
Thanks for the report, Which version of Ubuntu are you running? What do
you recommend instead? the grey squares could be due to a video issue.
Are you running compiz? does it happens without it?
