There is no need for ndiswrapper anymore, just download the RTL8185L
driver from Realtek website:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=1&Level=6&Conn=5&DownTypeID=3&Get
realtek rtl8180 pci card.

I would point out firstly that this is a thread for the RTL-8185, while the
'duplicate' thread is for the 8180 driver (is there a difference or are Realtek
just baffling us with numbers?)

This is not a network-manager bug, it's a bug in the rtl8180 driver. And
it's actually a duplicate of #290325 (that one has a bit more info).

I have experienced a similar effect. I have an rtl-8185 as described above.
currently running ubuntu 8.10, kernel linux 2.26.27 -7
The performance and display icon show the signal as a weak signal,
approximately 10% strength, even when within a few feet of the source.
previously I was using 2.26.
