Ok, I'll close this bug in the meantime. Reopen if you get a chance to
test the old hardware and still see this issue.

Sorry guys, I've built a new system in the meantime. gave the one with the ati
to my parents. and they use an old CRT, so no DVI.
I might try lugging my monitor and a liveCD over there this weekend to test,

Now it works for me on Feisty Live CD, as reported in bug #29365:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/29365/comments/9
However, I cannot tell for sure that this bug is fixed (though I think
it could be). Jeremiah, could you try it, please?

[radeon] can't do dual-link tmds, o
This happens to me as well. I'm running Edgy on a thinkpad laptop with a
Radeon 9600-based card. Using the 'radeon' driver, external VGA works
fine, but DVI doesn't work. When using fglrx, everything works fine.
Another thing that may be related:
cat /proc/acpi/ibm/video

Alex:
I believe that edgy picked up whatever patches cipherfunk had pulled into his
version.
I get the same results. I have a picture over the DVI now, but it flickers
pretty badly.
The flickering is tied to screen updates. If I'm looking at a static desktop
and I don't move the mouse, the scree
Still getting problems with DVI on latest Dapper updates, which seem
related to some weird video BIOS errors.
Next week I'm going to upgrade to Edgy and report back.
Jeremiah, did you try it on Edgy?

this looks like the same (or at the very least related) bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2859
also, using the driver here:
http://cipherfunk.org/diary/archives/monthly/2006-06.html#e2006-06-16T02_13_30.htm
at least gives me a picture over the DVI..
however, with that driver, even
