Sorry, that was on Chrome, where I don't see the problem at all.
On Firefox, I see a grey vertical line down the right-side of the
Google.co.uk homepage image when the zoom is -1 (disappears at lower and
higher zooms).
I'm on Maverick with latest updates applied.

I haven't seen this problem in a while. I'm on Maverick now.
Specifically, if I try increasing/decreasing zoom of Google home page, I
don't see the original problem I reported.

None of the CSS fixes above work for me. My images are not re-scaled...
I even see the top and left border on google's search page.
I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid?), and I *don't* see it with Chrome.

This bug has been around for years and still persists for me on a new
laptop with new Ubuntu distro. (Had it on an old desktop PC too). Does
anyone know if there is likely to be any progress on this any time soon?

I observed this problem in Firefox, SeaMonkey, and Konkeror but not in
Chromium or Epiphany on my Dell Netbook (and also on a Dell desktop
system). The netbook is running:
Ubuntu version and kernel version
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu
Still present in Ubuntu 10.04 / Firefox 3.6.8

I can also confirm this in Lucid, up to date. With Intel integrated
video card. Annoying thing.

I still get this in Lucid, although I was getting it in Karmic as well.
Tried upgrading to daily .deb's to get rid of it but no progress.

Needed to apply css property to image:
opacity: 0.99;
(Firefox 3.5.7, Ubuntu Karmic 9.10)

I can also confirm this in Karmic. For me it doesn't happen on all
images resized with css, resizing an image dynamically shows at some
widths it shows the border and at others not. Possibly to do with sub-
pixel rendering?
