The pcspkr module got blacklisted by the alsa maintainers, there is
little that beep can do about that unfortunately. Please report it to
the package blacklisting the module.

You know when you press the volume up/down buttons, and a grey box pops
up with a picture of a speaker on it, and an orange bar that goes up and
down? What's the name of that box thing? Because I think that is what is
stopping beep from working. It looks like something to do with setting
the volume
