And, as it turns out, this is a duplicate of 243630 -- it's just less
obvious because many of the binary files start with the same 3 bytes
before hitting a '\0' (resulting in many of them showing the same sum)
@stiV: there are two problems:
1) apt's version of sha256 when called in a certain way generated an
improper sha256 (this is fixed in intrepid). However, since apt never
uses the .gz/.bz2 files when doing hash checks, this isn't a realistic
problem for any releases.
2) soyuz has been using apt's
so the checksums won't be fixed in feisty & gutsy?
what do you mean by "this is fixed in apt in intrepid"? the checksums are wrong
- what can apt do there? just questions of curiosity ;)

apt is already fixed in intrepid and for consistency (and less trouble)
we will workaround the issue in Soyuz (hardy) instead of backporting
apt.
