Ouch.
It looks like a kernel bug. Apparently, it's also present in the 2.6.26
development version, but not in 2.6.18 (in the stable Debian Etch
repos).

Indeed... this is a pretty obvious problem; it was working fine before I
switched from Debian :X
I guess using TCP networking would be a non-optimal workaround.
