I have an Ubuntu 7.04 alternate CD that I used to kick start my use of
Ubuntu. This CD recognizes the drive in my Inspiron and successfully
performs a full CD scan without issues. I have also burned a CD and
read it back with no issues. Therefore, the hardware is working fine.
The problem appear
Based off the information you've given me it sounds like there is
probably a hardware issue with the CD drive in the Inspiron 1150.
